Meet our Team- Skyler
Meet SKYLER!
If you haven’t met Skyler – you are missing a little bit of sunshine! Skyler is always smiling and will make you feel welcome and part of the Clemson Wine Bar Family the moment you walk through the door.
Skyler’s story is unique and wonderful. She grew up in Tampa, FL, moved to Houston when she was in middle school, graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and then moved to Clemson, SC to help mom and dad open the Clemson Wine Bar. And help us she did! In the early days of planning, Skyler wore many hats. She was designer, planner, construction worker, content creator, and creative brainstormer extraordinaire!
Truth be told, Skyler used to prefer beer. When we told her we were thinking of opening a wine bar, her first response was “Why not a brewery?”. Well, you’ll have to ask her what she thinks about wine now. She’s become quite the little expert; explaining our wine list to our customers like an old pro! I often hear her saying, “I think you might like the xyz – it has well balanced tannins and a slightly smoky finish” – and customers love her recommendations!
Skyler continues to serve our business as server, marketing lead, and one day – future owner. Until then, she’s got some plans for a great future in law enforcement. Her passion to serve others is evident in her sweet, yet confident personality.
Come visit us soon. And while at the Clemson Wine Bar, find Skyler and say hello. Skyler will make you feel like you’ve been friends forever!
Enjoy her responses to some questions I posed to all our staff. I thought it would be fun to learn a little about each of them!
Name: Skyler
About Me:
I am originally from Tampa, Florida and moved to Houston, Texas at 12 years old (I consider myself a Texan J ). I received my Undergraduate Degree in Business Management and I am currently in Graduate classes on track to get my Masters in Public Administration. I have a passion for helping others, and I love cats!
What do you love most about working at Clemson Wine Bar?
I enjoy sharing the knowledge that I have learned about wine. I started off wondering why someone would ruin a perfectly good grape, to appreciating the styles of winemaking, learning about how the soil affects the flavor of wine, and beginning to explore deductive tasting.
What is your favorite – go to glass of wine at the Clemson Wine Bar?
It is hard to choose just one. I love the Poor Thing Grenache, but lately I have been exploring Bordeauxs (which I found out I love!!) One of my new favorites is Petit Batard which is a Bordeaux style red blend.
What have you learned since working at the Clemson Wine Bar that you didn’t know before working here?
I have learned so much! My favorite has to be table service though. Either that or beginning to learn deductive tasting. It is amazing how you can smell and taste such a difference in grapes!
Name someone, past or present, who you admire and inspires you, and why.
My parents inspire me daily. They have pursued their dreams (by opening the wine bar!) and they show unconditional love to me J
What was the last book you read?
The last book I read (and still am reading) is Crime Scene by Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman.
Last movie you saw or your favorite movie ever?
My two all-time favorite movies, hands down, are The Princess Bride and Singin’ in the Rain.
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
I am currently watching The Night Shift, Frasier, and of course I constantly have to rewatch Friends. When I’m in the mood (or have free time) I like to watch Supernatural.
Do you have any skills/talents that most people don’t know about?
I am an Emergency Medical Responder . I also have a great talent of sleeping!
Name three words that you would use to describe YOU:
Dependable, honest, and persistent
What do you want to make sure you do before you leave planet Earth?
Before leaving Earth, I would like to travel (specifically to New Zealand and Australia) as much as I can while still making an impact in some way.
What are you happiest doing when you are not working?
Spending time with my family and cat.
Do you have a personal motto?
When I was in ROTC in college, my battalion commander always used to say “In the absence of a plan, your plan is the plan.” Along with that, I like Franklin D. Roosevelt’s quote “a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.”
When times get rough, make sure you have a plan, and come out stronger on the other side!
If you won the lottery tomorrow, what type of business/company/non-profit would you start? (of course, in addition to staying on with the Wine Bar )
I would start a business that helps kids mainly (and adults as well) express themselves and clear their minds.
